Deb Mortensen's book ‘Not me!’ is a delightful treasure that children will absolutely adore! In my
opinion, the author is a genius, and I would be amazed if this work doesn't gain immense
popularity across the globe!
As a mum of three, I can vouch for how often the phrase "not me!" echoes in our house, and this
wonderfully crafted book is a clever instrument for nurturing the values of honesty and
accountability in young minds.
Mortensen has created such a magical way of transforming the often intimidating lesson of
owning up to one’s actions into a fun and empowering experience. The entertaining prose
serves as a gentle reminder that making mistakes is a natural part of life, and that learning to
take responsibility is a crucial skill that will benefit children as they mature. By teaching
accountability through such an engaging medium, children are more likely to embrace the
message rather than feel cornered when they make a mistake. Instead of instinctively shouting
"not me!" in denial, they may pause to reflect on their actions.
For me though, the true brilliance of this work lies in its ability to spark joy and foster meaningful
conversations within families. Each time the phrase "not me" is uttered post-reading, it becomes
a delightful opportunity to revisit the valuable lessons from the story, creating a joyful cycle of
learning and laughter. Additionally, the vibrant and bold illustrations complement the narrative
beautifully, making the lessons even more memorable.
Overall, this book is a must-have for every household and an invaluable resource for educators
looking to foster a culture of honesty and responsibility in their classrooms; I honestly can’t
recommend it enough!
